Born in 1927 in Visby, Sweden, died in 2017 in the Luberon, France.

Evert was a painter and sculptor. He lived between Sweden and the Luberon since the mid-50s when the region was sparsely populated and agriculturally based. He sculpted the heads from the 90s until the late 2000s. In them I see the local people from the region. For years Evert created them in his studio in Lacoste, going into the villages, the fields, the barns, the garages. People would pose or he would simply watch and capture them en plein air. Souls being grabbed in the kindest of ways. The more I look, the more I hear. The more I view, the more I understand. The materials are consistent, mixed, all very simple, clay dug by hand, discarded brick or wood or stone. Painted with the colors found in the local ground or the lime paint for the walls of the house. He dug the clay locally or in the Camargue, taken from two wild worlds. The material that made it into his hands was as he said, “a gift from the earth.” The work is not about calculation, it is pure, from the heart, from the gut, inside. Measurements available upon request, pricing includes shipping from France.
